About this policy

This policy explains how DG Motel Ltd, trading as Botany Palms Motel (“we”, “us”), collects, uses, stores and protects personal information through this website and when you stay with us. We follow the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020.

What we collect

We only collect the information we need. Depending on how you deal with us, this may include:

• Enquiry form: your name, email address, phone number, company (if you give one), the dates you're interested in and your message.
• Newsletter: your email address, if you choose to sign up.
• Website use: information about how you use this site, such as the pages you visit, your device and browser type and your approximate location, collected through Google Analytics 4 using cookies.
• At the motel: when you check in, we ask to see valid photo ID and a bank card (debit or credit card), and take a bond by credit card or cash.
• Security cameras: CCTV cameras record the common areas of the property that are visible from the car park.

Bookings

Online bookings are made through SwiftBook, a booking engine run by STAAH. When you book, STAAH collects your booking and payment details and passes your booking details to us so we can prepare for your stay. STAAH's own privacy policy and terms apply to the information you give it.

How we use your information

• To answer your enquiries and to manage your booking and stay.
• To send you our newsletter, if you've signed up. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any newsletter or by contacting us.
• To understand how people use this website so we can improve it.
• To keep our guests and property safe, and to meet our legal obligations.

We only use your information for the purpose we collected it for, or a directly related purpose, unless you agree otherwise or the law allows or requires it.

Cookies and analytics

This site uses Google Analytics 4, which places cookies in your browser to help us understand how visitors use the site. Google processes this information for us and may store it outside New Zealand. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, or install Google's opt-out browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Blocking Google Analytics cookies won't stop you browsing this site.

We also use a small cookie (bp_stay) and your browser's storage to remember the dates and number of guests you choose. These hold no personal details, and the cookie expires after 14 days. The map on this site only loads Google Maps when you choose to open it, and Google's own privacy policy then applies.

Where your information is stored

Information you send through this website, such as enquiries and newsletter sign-ups, is stored with our website hosting provider, SiteHost, in New Zealand. Emails you send us are held in our email account, which is provided by Google. Booking information is held by STAAH and by us. When you send an enquiry, it is also emailed to us through Resend, an email delivery service in the United States.

Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, browser and pages requested) for security and troubleshooting.

We take reasonable steps to protect your information from loss, misuse and unauthorised access, use or disclosure.

Sharing

We don't sell, rent or trade your personal information. We only share it with the service providers who help us run this website and our bookings, such as SiteHost, Google, Resend and STAAH, or when the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as we need it for the purposes above, or for as long as the law requires, and then delete or destroy it securely.

Accessing and correcting your information

Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have the right to ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and to ask us to correct it if you think it's wrong. To make a request, contact us:
